Importing data — What currency an amount is in (2)
• A column written in more than one currency, such as £5 and $20, is not given one currency. Each amount keeps the currency written on it.
• Nothing is converted. An amount written as £188 is stored as 188 and shown as £188.
Most imports say nothing about any of this, because nothing changes: a file in the currency you already see amounts in is imported as it always was. Where the file is in another currency, a note under the column on the review step says what was found and what importing it will change.
• If the workspace holds no money yet and has no currency set, its currency is set to the file’s.
• Otherwise the field the import creates is given its own currency, and We record money in more than one currency is ticked in the workspace’s settings. That setting is what lets a field or an amount have a currency of its own.
